Acupuncture Traditional Chinese Medicine
TCM Holistic Health
The Ancient healing art of Acupuncture has stood the test of time. An evolution of thousands of years with countless people practicing and healing with it. This vast collection of knowledge and experience is still proving its influence on the human body is relevant, popular and effective in today’s world.
By far the most commonly asked question I am asked is how does Acupuncture work? Evolving my approach and use of Acupuncture since 2004, I have become more respectful of our bodies innate ability to heal, so I describe Acupuncture like a conversation with the body that encourages your body to heal itself, gently and sometimes surprisingly quickly.
However, Acupuncture is arising out of the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) - an Ancient understanding of our body as a whole system. It is this perspective that affords both the Acupuncturist and the placement of the needles to enter a deeper connection with what is at play. This Holistic approach to health and healing is a do with you rather than a do to you treatment. Holistic is about the whole of ourself. Making sense of our unique bodies, this moment of our life and our history as well as our needs that have been met or left unmet. Holistic encompasses our life and the way we live as the path to health or unwellness. So each session is also a chance to connect the dots strewn through our live and make more sense of your choices towards a healthier future.
The Holistic approach can be an elegant reframe to help us regroup and engage with our health goals with more clarity and confidence. Empowering yourself as a participant rather than a bystander can help motivate positive choices.
TCM is about finding a balance in such a way that the body is able to optimise vitality and function. Bridging the gap between where we are at and where we would like to be is understanding, knowledge and changing. Either 1 of those 3 elements of that bridging can have a physical, mental or emotional layer either strengthening or weakening them. Having a deep appreciation of the healing journey, understanding where my client is at and wants to go is step one. From there you make the call as to what possible contributing factors to your health picture you would like to bring on board. From here we are then both armed with a language to discuss any changes to explore and for me to get to work with Acupuncture to see what change is possible.
Acupuncture Holistic Healing
Originating around 100 BC, the collective of Acupuncture practised over thousand of years has maintained its practice on maps of the body. These maps show layers of pathways known as Meridians, connecting the exterior of the body with its muscles, tendons and joints with areas within the body including the organs, nervous and arterial systems, glands and sense organs. This system is collated into TCM Medical Patterns which help us arrive at a uniquely TCM understanding of the body and disorders. The overlaying of the body’s pain or health issues is overlaid with the Meridians and along with the health history help inform the selection of Acupuncture points with which to stimulate during a treatment.
